HE DID IT!!!!: BARACK OBAMA IS PRESIDENT

THE END OF A LONG JOURNEY
Did you ever imagine that in your lifetime you would able to say the words "African American President" all in the same sentence? As the answer to so many prayers.... Barack Obama, a 47-year-old first-term senator from Illinois, shattered more than 200 years of history Tuesday night by winning election as the first African-American president of the United States..

We the American people built an unprecedented grassroots organization that brought a record number of people into the political process -- many for the first time, many for the first time in a long time. You should all be proud of yourselves for stepping out and making your voices heard. This truly shows us that when we move to action we can bring about a change...a change that has been long over due.

Today marks one of the important days of our lives, our parents and grandparents and their ancestors would truly be proud of the strides we have made as a nation of people. For the many people who suffered for this country and built their hopes and dreams on equality....I say a change has come. To all of the people to cried and died to be a part of a country....I say a change has come. We have truly come a mighty long way as a people. In the words of President Barack Obama "this significant moment in time is just the beginning."

I have a renewed sense of pride, urgency and faith. Pride in who I am, the culture I represent and the many other people who joined on this day to let their voices be heard. Urgency to do my part to bring about a change and most of all an unwavering Faith in God. We stepped out as a people of all colors and nationalities and made our voices heard! One People One Vote One Nation!

From the words of President Barack Obama...."If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer," Obama told tens of thousands of joyful supporters in Chicago's Grant Park. "America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do," Obama said. "This is our moment. This is our time!"

And we all know that Michelle going to give the White House Fantabulous Style. :-)

God Bless America and God Bless

President Barack Obama

BARGAINISTA STYLE

Greetings Fashionistas...

When the times get tough a Fashionista gets even tougher. A Fashionista is able to shift gears into Bargainista mode, without skipping a beat. Do not let the state of the economy hamper your ability to be Fantabulously Fierce. The biggest way to maintain your divalicious style when the economy is putting a crunch on your pocket book is shop strategically. There are tons of sales and reasonably priced merchandise out there. The best thing is that your style does not have to suffer. As a matter of fact, utilize this time to truly allow your fashion imagination to run wild. You might even surprise yourself.

A Fashionista turned Bargainista knows the smell of a great bargain. Bargain shopping – is a frugalite's dream. Seek out sales and price mark downs. Some of my favorite bargain places to shop are Dillard's, Macy's, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, DSW and Show Cents. These retailers are always bringing in new merchandise. The buyers of these establishments keep the stores stocked with the latest fashion trends, as well as, classic wardrobe building pieces and accessories.

I spotted a beautiful cocktail dress at T.J. Maxx, similar to one Kia Whitacker (Forest Whitacker's wife) flossed at a most recent fundraising event. The best part was the dress was a mere fraction of the original price. Typically, at off-price retailers you can find one of a kind pieces and rock bottom prices. Finding that one of a kind piece means that you are sure not to show up at an event and see another Fashionista wearing the same frock. Although, it is funny to see "Who Wore It Best" in the US Magazine it is by no means funny when it happens to you. ha ha

The objective is to look fabulously flawless and stylish while not breaking the bank! Seek out the bargains. Bargain shopping can be very stressful, but it is can also be very thrilling and rewarding. Here are some pointers that can help you to have an absolutely stress free bargain shopping experience, and most of all save money.

  • Get a local newspaper or magazine that lists local secondhand stores, outlet malls and weekend sales.
  • Head to the back of the store. This is where the sale and/or clearance items are typically held. Stores want you to look at their fully priced items before their discounted merchandise.
  • Know what you are looking for and do not buy just to buy. With just a bit of patience and a keen eye you can get some really good deals.
  • If you like brand name products, call to the major stores and ask if they are going to be having any closings, or overstock sales. Overstock is a great way to get designer brand items at cheap prices.
  • Shop around. Never buy something that you can get a better price someplace else.

Another great thing about bargain shopping today is that you do not necessarily have to leave the house to bargain shop. It can all be done online. Many great deals and one of a kind pieces can be found with the click of a mouse. Combine sales with an online coupon to maximize your savings. Use an online website that organizes up-to-date coupons by category. (e.g.

http://www.rather-be-shopping.com). Shopping online also makes it easy to compare prices, but be aware! Some sites are not always safe. Make sure you feel comfortable when you give a site your credit card number. Print your receipt for your records.

With the holidays approaching us bargain shopping will be crucial now more than ever! Take advantage of those after holiday sales. After the holidays stores want to get rid of fall clothing to make room for summer merchandise.

Be a Fantabulous Fashionista doing it Bargainista style!!!

Stay tuned for my next blog where I will reveal what is hot for the fall season. Yes, ladies it is fall. Tis the season for boots, sweaters and fabulous holiday attire.

TO BEIGNET OR NOT TO BEIGNET THAT IS THE QUESTION

Les a le bon ton roule Fashionistas...

There is nothing else in the world like a beignet. Some may say it is just a donut with powdered sugar on it...I would have to disagree. Let me take a moment to break down exactly what this delicious treat is.

A beignet pronounced ben–YAY, which is means "bump", refers to a French pastry made from deep fried dough and sprinkled with confectioner's sugar. Beignets are also popular as an appetizer, with fillings such as crawfish or shrimp. Beignets are often found in, and typically associated with, the city of New Orleans. While in New Orleans you must make your way to the quaint French bakery Cafe Du Monde. Do not expect an elaborate backery. This french style bakery is nothing like the French bakeries you may have seen on your favorite romance movie. There is powdered sugar on the floor and outside of the establishment there are pigeons every where trying to get a morsel of this delicious goodness.

I know that the beignet is not on my meal plan, but this is definitely a treat that I had to take advantage of on my recent "pre- hurrican Gustav" visit to New Orleans. I was fortunate enough to revisit New Orleans after hurricane Gustave. Let me ease your mind by telling you that Cafe DuMonde is still there churning out these small caloric packed goodies 24/7.

My mouth is starting to water just thinking about this sugary treats.

STYLE COMES TO THE WHITE HOUSE

Fashionistas!

We are fortunate and so blessed to be part of a generation that is seeing history in the making. On this 45th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech we are witnesses to the very first African American man to be nominated as the Democratic nominee for the President of The United States. Barack is a man of such great influence. He definitely needs a woman of equal power beside him. Michelle Obama fits the bill totally! She is not only smart and accomplished, but also beautiful and stylish. I know we've said to ourselves that if an African American woman was to ever become the First Lady, she would be incredibly stylish. Michelle doesn't let us down in any form or fashion.

Michelle Obama's big speech at the Democratic convention was eagerly anticipated not just for what she'd say, but for what she'd wear. The would-be first lady's fashion flair is already grabbing the attention of fashion aficionados all around. She's being closely watched as a possible budding fashion icon. Now how exciting is that. :-)

Michelle and her daughters all sported hues of blues and purples. Michelle's blue dress was designed by Maria Pinto, a Chicago-native designer (formerly assistant to Geoffrey Beene). She chose to accent the dress with a large pendant that came straight from her very own jewelry box. The pendant was reminiscent of Barack's rising sun campaign logo. The pendant was placed over Michelle's heart, so it might have symbolized that her speech was coming straight from her heart.

On the last night of the convention the Obama family looked coordinated but not contrived. They were all wearing a variations of red.

I doubt it very seriously that Michelle will change her style if she makes it to the White House. She already looks like a first lady; her style is so clean and elegant, she will not need to change anything. Another thing to note is that Michelle has broken tradition by wearing a print dress on such a big occasion. Fashion is what you make of it. Forget about all of the myths about fashion take a chance on style. Incorporate fashion, style, and your personal touch; and you are guaranteed to have a winning combination each and every time. Michelle is truly a Fashionista who is not afraid to make a statement. Let her be an inspiration to us all.

I can't wait to see what she wears for the Inauguration!

DILLARD'S BACK TO SCHOOL FASHION SHOW RECAP

Greetings Fashionistas!

If you weren't there on August 16, 2008 to see the "The Dillard's Back To School Fashion Shows" you missed a fantastic treat! The day was filled with smiles, beautifully done make-up and fantabulous clothing. Make-up was provided by the Lancomb, Estee Lauder, Clinique and Sheseido make-up counters conveniently located in Dillard's West Oaks. Clothing was provided by Dillard's of course.

As the crowd eagerly awaited, energy and excitement was in the air. The music was booming and the lights were flashing as the models hit the runway sporting their back to school looks. Designer lines such as House of Dereon, Sean John, Giani Bini, Jessica Simpson and Echo made a big presence on the runway. All of the designer lines and many more can be found at Dillard's for reasonable prices.

A heartfelt thanks goes out to Lisa Etie - Cosmetic Counter Manager, Shawn Hughes - Store Manager and all of the many other Dillard's employees who helped to make this show a huge success.

I must say ladies....if you haven't been to Dillard's recently you are really missing out on some fabulous finds! A Fashionista could easily get lost in their shoe department alone.

LET'S TALK INTIMATE DETAILS: A GIRLS SECRET

Many of us would like to change something about our physical appearance. For some it is a nose that seems too large, for others, its lips that are too thin, and for many women, it's small or drooping breasts. Countless surveys have shown that women see their breasts as one part of their body they would like to change. The decision to have breast enhancement surgery is a life-changing one, before taking any permanent steps, it is wise to do some careful thinking and consider all options.

There are many affordable, viable options out there in the market place that can help you to achieve the appearance of perkier or fuller breasts. Natural breast enhancements can be achieved with the help of specialty bras and subtle bra insertions. Specialty bras and bra insertions are available to give you the appearance of having larger breasts.

Nubra is ideal for sheer clothing, halter and backless styles. This nude, strapless, backless silicone bra provides comfortable, ultra-flattering coverage that is undetectable under most revealing clothing. Wear the styles you want while getting the support you need. For the best fit, order your natural cup size without padding.

DIMR’s keep you covered up when you can’t wear a bra. DIMR’s are silicone nipple covers that are invisible under clothing. DIMR’s adhere to your skin using your own body heat- no sticky adhesive involved. Plus, they can be used over and over again. DIMR's can be found at Village Girls Boutique located at 2509 Rice Blvd.

Hollywood Fashion Tape is easy-to-use, clear double-stick, “do everything” apparel and body tape. Hollywood Fashion Tape’s specially formulated adhesive is gentle on skin, hypoallergenic and leaves no residue on fabrics. The clear tape does not cover up the skin’s natural color, is more discreet and fabric-friendly than safety pins. This handy little product can be purchased at any Top Drawer location.

How does it work? You get 36 pre-cut, 3-inch disposable strips (3” x ½” actual size) in each box. Each strip of tape contains a removable backing on each side. You simply peel the backing from one side of the tape, press the tape firmly to your skin or fabric, remove the other backing, and apply the item to be secured. It’s as easy as peel, stick and go!

Now here's a super idea. How about getting a boob job without going under the knife. What a revolutionary idea, " The Boob Job In A Box." Now I'm not saying you need it, but women with smaller breasts at one point or another have wondered what it would be like to have fuller breasts. Silicone inserts can add a full cup size to your bust line and feel very natural. Best of all, they're removable.

I agree with the makers of this product....Silicon inserts allow for all the fun and none of the commitment of permanent breast enhancement solutions. You can position your Takeouts under your breasts for lift, in front for a little kick, and on the outer sides for "why, hello there" cleavage. The inserts are washable just be careful not to puncture them with sharp objects.

Get ready for this one Fashionistas...This next product is sure to raise a lot of eyebrows. It's a spray that claims to increase the bust size...The beauty industry was in a tizzy a couple of months ago when Rodial UK announced it would be launching Boob Job, a hormone-free topical meant to increase cup size, it's now available at US stores like Bliss. But seriously...what I want to know is anyone naive enough to think that this stuff is going to work? The maker of this product has the audacity to charge $175 for it, a high price tag does not mean that the product actually works.

Have fun trying some of these products. Let us know which ones you find to work best. That's all for now Fashionistas.

FOUR FABULOUS FINDS FOR SUMMER!

Article by: Shavonnah Roberts

Summer is officially here, Houston is sweltering and the days of summer are in full swing! With temperatures climbing well into the 90s daily, many Fashionistas struggle with determining what new products to add to their arsenal to be sure that they are prim, polished and protected until the forgiving fall season reemerges.

After some research I have found four products that promise to keep you looking and feeling fabulous and cool this season.

1. Clinique City Block 25 SPF- As we all know

(or should know) sun block is essential to protecting

our skin against harmful UV rays that add lines, age spots

and over time can lead to skin cancer. Clinique has

developed a summer staple that will supply your face with

oil-free moisture as well as all-day protection against the
sun. (Rice Village –Sephora- 2401 Times)

2. Kiehl’s Day Care Lip Balm SPF 15- With over 150
years of experience in manufacturing high quality products for the face and

body, Kiehl’s definitely knows athing or two about keeping

Fashionistas looking their best. Kiehl’s Day Care Lip Balm

with SPF soothes cracked & chapped lips and is available in
clear and tinted. So whether you want to slather it on as a
base for your favorite summer gloss or make one of the

light tints your new summer hue-Kiehl’s has you covered.

(Highland Village-4076 Westheimer)

3. True Blue Spa Rice to the Rescue body polish-

Ready to hit the beach, go for a dip in the pool, or just

ready to sport your sun dresses and shorts? Not so fast!

You sure to prepare your skin with a thorough exfoliation

session. Bath & Body Works hit the mark with its “Rice to the

Rescue” body polish. With rice bran to gently exfoliate and rice

milk and oil to nourish and moisturize-your skin will thank you.

(Bath & Body Works stores)

4. Victoria’s Secret Bare Bronze Body-Perfecting Spray - Let’s

face it-sometimes summer rolls around faster than those

workout results kick in, leaving all of us in need of a little

assistance. Victoria’s Secret Bare Bronze Body-Perfecting

Spray boasts of its ability to immediately conceal stretch

marks and cellulite. With a claim to fame like that, this

summer secret may have year-round staying power, Fashionistas!

Point, aim, spray, and put on that sexy summer sundress and

seize the day! (Victoria’s Secret Stores)

I'd like to thank Shavonnah Roberts for this wonderful submission. Shavonnah is truly a Fashionista on the move. She is a 20 something Fashionista with a passion for writing. She is also a self-professed lover of all things related to health and beauty, from stimulating massages with the latest skin creams to vibrant eye shadows and lip colors. An avid reader, Shavonnah is always on the hunt for new beauty products to try. Her favorite quote is, “Unless you know what you want, you can’t ask for it."

HOW AWESOME IS HE

Oh how awesome is the power of God. God is so many different things to each one of us. I would be writing for days if I attempted to make a list of those things. The power of God can not be denied. It is He who has made us fearfully and wonderfully in his image. Let not your heart be troubled...if God said it you can rest assure that it will come to past.

Be encouraged my fellow Fashionistas. You are a marvelous piece of work. There is none other like you. You are beautiful, majestic, specially made by the Creator Himself. Take pride in who you are and where you are in life. You are who you are and where you are at this specific time for God's specific purpose. Even when we are going through something God is still there. It's up to us to stop and hear his voice. Oh what a mighty God we serve. Oh what an honor to be a child of the Most High.

With God as your Father who could ask for anything else.

PRAISE 92.1 PROMOTES MODELING 101

The Yolanda Adams Morning Show

Promotes Modeling 101

Fashionistas...I was recently given a blessed opportunity that I wanted to share with each of you. I was afforded the chance to go on The Yolanda Adams Morning show to promote the Modeling 101 Workshop which is conducted by Delilah Unlimited.

I can't begin to convey to you how honored I was to have the opportunity to speak about something that is so dear to my heart as educating and empowering young girls and women. Yolanda and the staff at the station were incredibly friendly and accommodating to me. I won't lie to you...I was on cloud nine. I was sitting next to a woman who's music had helped me through some trying times. To this day a good Yolanda Adams song can minister to my heart. No matter what I'm going through songs like "The Battle Is Not Yours", "Never Give Up" and "I'm Thankful" always reminds me of who's child I am and that this too shall pass. One could only hope to meet such an iconic figurehead of Gospel music. And yet, here I was sitting right next to her and even more, I was on the radio with her. Oh what a mighty God we serve.

As Yolanda, Larry Jones & I spoke about the Modeling 101 I was so exhilarated. As the phone lines lit up with callers calling in clamouring to register for the Workshop I was ecstatic. Yolanda Adams is also a proud sponsor of the Modeling 101 Workshop.

The Modeling 101 Workshop is for more than those who want to model. The workshop was created with young ladies and women who desire to recapture class, etiquette and style. The workshop covers topics such as

  • Poise, Presence & Posture (command attention when you walk into a room)

  • Runway basics (learn how to walk like a model)

  • Self Confidence & Self Esteem (voice projection, body language)

  • Manners & Etiquette (social and table)

  • Diet & Nutrition

  • Style & Fashion basics

  • Learn how to create a day spa in your own home.

Don't miss out on a fantastic opportunity. The next workshop is scheduled for July 19th. Registration is open now. Get in now and take advantage of the Early Bird Special.

The Fantabulous workshop is the perfect gift for yourself, daughter and/or niece. This workshop is a gift that will stay with participants for a lifetime.

SUMMER SPLASH

Swimsuit season is upon us Fashionistas...it's time to peel off the layers of winter in exchange for beautiful sun kissed skin tones. It's time to think about that swimsuit. This can be a very uncomfortable situation for many of us. God created every body beautiful no matter what size you are.

When selecting a swimsuit pay particular attention to the form and shape of your body. It's not just about finding a cute suit.....the suit must flatter your body. Patterns can sometimes be too busy or the cut of the bathing suit can detract from your beauty. Then there is the bikini swimsuit that frightens us all. Don't despair...there are various alternative bathing suit options to choose from.

Suit Choices

Tankinis: These suits closely resemble shorts and tank tops, and are generally more concealing than standard swimsuits.

Skirt Swimsuits: Swimsuits with attached skirts can easily accentuate the allure of a woman’s curves while concealing larger hips or thighs.

One piece swimwear: These suits come in a variety of colors, patterns, and styles to make every woman feel attractive, no matter what her size.

Suit Design

The design of the swimsuit is just as important as the style. Many bathing suit sizes are equipped with control panels in the hips, stomach, and buttocks, giving added shape and support to potential problem areas. The neckline is also critical – a higher neckline supports a larger chest size while concealing more skin, whereas a curvy, provocative neckline helps draw the eye upward and away from trouble spots. The chest support in a suit is a big factor contributing to its comfort, and standard shelf bras may provide adequate support. Swimsuits with soft cup bras and underwire are more supportive and can add a curvy appearance to a smaller bust. If you have fuller breasts, choose a suit with greater back support (an X or Y shape as opposed to the common U). This will provide adequate chest support and overall comfort.
Haven't done enough crunching....Ruching in the midriff area can camouflage the tummy area.

Colors

Color is a critical choice for women who want to make a statement with their swimwear rather than their size. Black is universally slimming, but all-black swimwear does not appeal to many women’s fashion sense. The general rule for swimsuits, regardless of the size, is to choose a color or pattern that emphasizes the appropriate areas: namely, the smaller areas. A woman with a small chest and large hips, for example, would be best served by a suit with a bright, attractive pattern on top and more muted colors below the waist. Color blocks, diagonal stripes, and single splashes of color can help add flair to a swimsuit while simultaneously making it an attractive garment for any size woman

These tips can assist you with your swimsuit selection......You are well on your way to making a FANTABULOUS summer splash..

INSPIRATIONAL: I'M IN LOVE WITH GOD

I'm in love with God. I can't explain it. Everytime I think of God tears well up in the corners of my eyes. He's my Father and my Keeper. He steadies my hand and controls my thoughts. It is He whom I seek to please. I'm told that trials only come to make me strong. I wonder if God sees my tears and knows of the scars on my heart. I cry out to Him as a helpless infant crying out it to its mother. There is not a day that goes by that I can do without you...Dear God. You guide my future. You alone are the Most High. I devote my life to you. I fall to my knees and plead to you from my innermost being. You understand every groan and moan that I utter.

I will trust you all the days of my life.
